Leftover products and old collections are always a burden to merchants. Bundling is a good way to get rid of these kinds of goods but if you have a significant number of these products, it takes a lot of work to create bundles for them manually. We have developed a very easy solution for this issue: the Collection Mix and Match

Create a collection of your leftover products

What is the issue that we want to solve? We want to apply an X% discount on any combination of leftover/old collection/outlet products. We suggest two procedures regarding how many leftover products you have in your shop; one for those with a lot of items and one for those with a few items.

1- Merchants with lots of leftover or old products

If you have a lot of products (let’s say more than 20) we suggest you create a complete standard Shopify collection for them, then create a collection mix and match bundle. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Create a collection in your shop and name it “Leftover Products” or “Old Collection” or “Huge Sale” or “Outlets”, etc. I like “Outlets”. Choose a name that shows you are offering a huge discount on its products.
Create a product collection on Shopify's admin panel
  2. Find the products that you want to get rid of and assign them to your new “Outlets” collection.
Create a Collection Mix and Match bundle with Fast Bundle
  3. Go to Fast Bundle’s admin panel and create a Collection Mix & Match bundle.
  4. Click on Add Collection and choose the first option: Select from your Shopify collections.
  5. Choose “Outlets”, set the required quantity of products for the bundle, and set a significant discount on your bundle. Less than 20% is not significant.
  6. Specify which places in your shop you want to display and promote the bundle. Save your bundle.

2- Merchants with a few leftover or old products

If you have only a few leftover products (< 20 products) ignore going to the Collections panel on your shop and creating the collection directly from Fast Bundle. Follow these steps:

  1.     Go to Fast Bundle and create a Collection Mix & Match bundle.
  2.     Press the Add collection button and choose the second choice: Create a collection.
  3.     A browsing modal will show up. Find your leftover products and press Done.
  4.     Enter a name for your manually made collection.
  5.     Set the required quantity of products for the bundle, and set a significant discount on your bundle. Less than 20% is not significant.
  6.     Specify which places in your shop you want to display and promote the bundle. Save your bundle.

Note: don’t be stingy while setting the discount. Don’t forget why you are creating this offer. You are in pain already and have to get rid of these old products. So put a great discount (more than %50) to make it more attractive and irresistible.

Last step: promote the great sale

The last essential step is to promote your offer. You must drive traffic to your offer to succeed. Unless it would last as a useless part of your shop.

The normal path is that you show the collection mix and match widget on the product page of each included product, but this is not enough, because customers click on the “Go to the Bundle Builder” button and get directed to the Bundle Builder page; the page that they can build their bundle. It’s ok, but you can make much more conversions if you promote the bundle builder itself.

Here are some tips that our active professional merchants have tried to promote their Collection Mix & Match bundles, or better say the Bundle Builder of those offers.

1- Email Marketing

You already have a list of emails of your active or old customers. Create a nice email and introduce your huge offer. Remember to mention the direct link to the bundle builder. You can find the link to the bundle builder of an offer from the following part of the admin panel:

2- A Banner on Your Homepage

Some of our clients that have a slider on their homepage have dedicated one of their sliding banners to the Bundle Builder. They promote it by words like “Build your own bundle”.

3- On the Main Menu

Using the banner slider is almost the hottest way of promoting the Bundle Builder. A more conservative approach is to mention it on the main menu of your shop and name it “Outlet Bundle” or “Build your own bundle”.

Summary

I hope you found this article helpful. If you’re one of those persons that scrolls down to the end to see the highlights, here is the highlight: Create a collection and add your old collection/inventory leftovers/outlets to it, create a Collection Mix and Match bundle with a huge discount, and promote it in a way that you’re more comfortable with.
